One School, One Principal
Design Team Update and Information
January 2017

The Tyee design team met on December 13 to continue planning for the successful transition to one school, one principal in the fall of 2017. The team is currently working on four areas of focus.

1. Bell Schedule/Course Offerings
A survey has been developed to allow staff and students to give input on what they value in the current bell schedule such as advisory time, length of classes and lunch periods. The survey will be available to staff and students on January 3, 2017. The design team will analyze this input on Jan. 11, 2017 in order to finalize their recommendation for one bell schedule in the fall of 2017.

2. Communication
The design team has committed to creating a video after each design team meeting to help with keeping students and staff updated on their progress. Students on the design team created a video message that helps explain what the survey is about and how to access the survey.

3. Structures for Collaboration and Instructional Work
Once the bell schedule and course offerings recommendations are completed the design team will begin identifying how staff will work together on a daily basis on their instructional practice and structures for collaboration about teaching and supporting their students.

4. Phase 2 Goal Setting
On Jan. 11, 2017, the design team will begin identifying areas of focus for February – school year 2017-2018. The first major topic to address will be the mission and vision as one school.

For the Jan. 11, 2017 meeting the team has identified these next steps:
  1. Complete the bell schedule recommendation based on staff and student input.
  2. Develop plan for creating a mission/vision for one school
  3. Complete the recommendations for which courses will be shared across the two small learning communities
