A Message from Superintendent Enfield

Welcome back to school, Highline Families! We have an exciting year ahead of us.

As we enter the final year of our community’s four-year strategic plan, we continue to make progress on the bold goals we set together. The Class of 2027, our students who entered kindergarten when we launched the strategic plan, are achieving at higher levels than their peers. We also have preliminary graduation rate data, and I am proud to say that we will see an increase for the second year in a row. These successes and others are a testament to the power of high expectations, the strength of our partnerships with families and community, and the dedication of our amazing teachers and staff.

In November, we have an opportunity to vote on a bond that will give our students room to learn in our fast-growing community. The bond would allow us to build new schools to ease overcrowding, lower class sizes, and make our schools safer for students. The bond proposal, developed by a community-led committee of citizens from across the district, is Phase 1 of a fiscally responsible, long-term facilities plan. You can find more information on our website at highlineschools.org/bond.

You may have also started seeing bright orange Graduate! Highline logos on signs, buttons and t-shirts across the district. This is a grassroots community movement, supported by the Highline Schools Foundation, dedicated to supporting our goal of graduating at least 19 out of 20 Highline students. It is so gratifying to see community members stepping up to support and encourage our students. It will take all of us working together to ensure that our students graduate prepared to achieve their dreams, and I believe we will make it happen.

As I begin my fifth year serving as your superintendent, I want to thank you for your ongoing support and partnership. I truly feel like the luckiest superintendent anywhere, and I remain deeply committed to our promise that every student in Highline Public Schools is known by name, strength, and need, and graduates ready for college, career, and citizenship. I hope to see you as we begin our community conversations later this month, and I encourage you to email me at susan.enfield@highlineschools.org with your ideas, questions or concerns.

Here is to our best year yet -- We are Highline!
Susan Enfield, Ed.D.
